How to calculate the percentage of damage to a light bulb for moving head light

In response to the disputes of light source customers in the industry over the years, XMLITE  launched a beam LLP400 moving head light with light source warranty at the end of 2018 (light source warranty is 1000 hours or two years, whichever comes first). The lamp adopts the Japanese USHIO NSL400 light source short arc bulb (hereinafter referred to as the light source). It has been more than three years since the launch of the lamps in December 2021, the total sales volume is close to more than 20,000 units, and the light source failure rate is about 2%. Based on the above description, there are not many lighting manufacturers who are willing to provide long-term light source quality assurance services.

Total of 200 light sources returned to the factory have been collected in the past three years, of which 30 are normally damaged. The number of cold cracks was 139, including 13 normal damaged ones, and cold cracks accounted for 69% of the customer complaint data collected. Secondly, there are 56 broken lamps, including 2 normal damaged ones, and broken lamps accounted for 28% of the customer complaint data collected. From October 2018 to September 2019, there were a total of 148 customer complaints about light sources, accounting for more than 74% of the total customer complaints, except for the 15 normally damaged light sources, accounting for about 66%. Obviously, with the passage of time and accumulation of the light source, the aging problem of the light source will gradually appear. The main reason is that the longer the lamp is used, the longer the electrode distance of the foam core becomes, and the longer the start-up time will be, until it cannot be lit. From October 2019 to October 2020, there were 30 failures caused by cold cracking, accounting for 15% of the total. The proportion of cold crack failures in this time period is still as high as the previous time period. The second is that there are 12 broken lamps. From October 2020 to December 2021, there were a total of 10 faulty light sources, of which 5 were cold cracked and 5 were brokenThe problem is still focused on cold cracking and broken, but the total proportion is significantly lower than other time periods.
